Time of our Life...
Wed 9 Mar 2005– Green Day, Simple Plan Tonight Sydney was blown away by the Green Day concert. my niece (emswanny) and I stepped out on the town... Firstly, I must say, the boys from Canada, Simple Plan, did a wonderful job and really had the crowd jumping.... although a tad obsessed with screaming out "Sydney, Australia" before and after almost every song *lol* these guys were good.... During interval, while the audience was amusing themselves with Mexican waves and spelling out the dancing letters of YMCA to the somewhat surreal sounds of the Village People, a 6' giant pink rabbit staggered onto the stage, swilling beer....much to the delight of the the green-haired, heavily punked crowd.... he downed two bottles of beer... and then stumbled back off the stage... WTF???? *lmao* Anyways... to the spine-chilling and dramatic tones of Thus Sprach Zarathusta on came the boys from Green Day...they opened with "American Idiot"... and they just went off.....the pyrotechnics were awesome (and hot!)(and not for the faint hearted *faint* )...and not a person was sitting from the very beginning..(except the guy with his arms folded next to me... who eventually, I think, tired of my screaming, yelling, scary dancing and air punching...up and left... WTF?? )....A very slick and frenzied perfomance by the boys, and I have honestly not witnessed a more generous band, with their time, their music and just sharing themselves with the crowd. In a trademark gesture, they plucked three young kids from the crowd for one song.. a guy who could play drums... a girl on bass guitar and a totally rapt guy for the electric guitar. These kids were shown the chords and beat of each instrument and did the entire song with Billie Joe and Mike singing up front.... they were then told they could keep the guitars.... what a blast!!.... another young kid was pulled from the crowd to Supersoak the audience throughout a song.... They did a mix of old and new, "Minority", "When I Come Around", and "King for a Day "rocked the place....... they did the Queen classic "We Are the Champions".. and "Shout", which went down a treat here in Sydney.... and of course they finished the encore in a thick tickertape shower with "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)".....This high energy, non-stop tornado of a concert was.........well....... tres cool... *groan*.. sorry... just had to....
