Top Closers with Big News
MN1 Staff Writer DALLAS (July 26, 2007) - Public companies love to release positive news and watch the reflection in their stock prices. The following three companies released positive news of some kind today or late yesterday and then watched as their stock prices closed very strong, despite the slump in small-cap trading. Bank of Salem (OTCBB: BSOG) shares rose $1.64, or 9 percent, to a closing price of $19.75 Thursday afternoon. The movement reflects yesterday's announcement it will be bought by Frontier Financial Corp. (OCTBB: FTBK) for about $68.9 million. The sale will allow Frontier Financial to expand its business into the Oregon market. Per the agreement, Salem shareholders will receive $21.00 of Frontier stock for each share of Salem common stock. Med Gen Inc. (OTCBB: MGEN) shares closed up 50 percent to $0.0015 this afternoon. Today the company announced that its unaudited revenue as of July 21, 2007, was up 850 percent to $1.7 million. Monthly unaudited revenue for the period was $252,658, a $3,000 increase for the same period last year. In the press release, Med Gen CEO Paul Kravitz outlined three steps necessary to solve the company's declining stock price issue. Shares of Pixelworks Inc. (Nasdaq: PXLW) closed up 11 cents, or 7.28 percent, to $1.62 this afternoon. Today the company reaffirmed its third-quarter guidance, and reported its second-quarter revenue was at $26.9 million, up 12 percent from $24 million in the first quarter of the year, a decrease of 13 percent from $30.9 million in the second quarter of 2006. Art Technology Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARTG) announced today its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2007, reporting revenue for the quarter up 29 percent to $32.6 million, as compared to $25.2 million the same period last year. In the press release, Art Technology CEO Bob Burke said the growth in revenue and deffered revenue "validates the increased demand" for ATG solutions.
